Is Women's Motorcycle Gear Safe Enough? Meet the AAA Options

For a long time, that was a fair question. Women riders knew it, the industry knew it, and anyone who'd tried to find a properly rated jacket that also fit a woman's body knew it best of all. Options were limited. You could have protection or comfort, safety or style, built for the highest standard or built for you. Rarely both.

That's changed - and the proof is in the products.

CE AAA is the highest safety rating a motorcycle jacket can receive under the EN 17092 standard. It's what you find on race suits and full leather gear. It's not easy to achieve, and for a long time, very few garments built specifically for women carried that rating. Now several do. Below are the five AAA-rated options you'll find at Moto Lounge right now - all tested and certified to the highest level, all designed with women's bodies in mind.

Not sure what AAA actually means in practical terms? Here's our full breakdown of protective classes.

1. STEALTH BLACK AAA - Pando Moto

Best for: Hot summer days when you still want maximum protection.

The STEALTH is the most stripped-back option in this list, in the best possible way. It's a mesh jacket, which means ventilation is built into the construction itself. You'll feel air moving through it - it is literally seen through in the front! On very hot days, that's exactly what you want. It comes with D3O® Diablo Level 2 shoulder and elbow armor included, UHMWPE lining (15 times stronger than steel) in the critical zones, and CE AAA certification. Maximum protection, maximum airflow.

Jacket runs bigger in size compared with some previous Pando Moto jackets and is quite stretchy, so you might need to go a size down for the slim, close-to-body fit. Planning to wear more layers underneath? Then consider regular size or do size up. Remember to check the size chart and size recommender on the product page. Available XS–XXXL.

2. LUNA BLACK AAA - Pando Moto

Best for: Summer riding with a slightly more structured look

The LUNA is also built for summer: breathable material, a ventilation zipper at the front, and CE AAA certification throughout. It's a step up in structure from the STEALTH, which makes it a good choice if you want something that reads more like a traditional jacket while still performing in the heat.

It comes in black only and runs true to size. Like the STEALTH, it won't keep you warm on cooler days, so think of it as your warm-weather option rather than an all-year jacket.

3. SHERRIE - MotoGirl

Best for: The rider who wants a jacket that feels like anything but

MotoGirl developed the Sherrie material specifically to solve a problem: motorcycle gear that actually makes you want to put it on. The SHERRIE jacket is built from that material - Nylon/Elastane outer with Dupont Kevlar reinforcement in the high-impact zones - and it genuinely feels like wearing a regular soft jacket. Lightweight, super flexible, completely unremarkable in terms of bulk.

The rating says otherwise. CE AAA, Level 2 shoulder and elbow protectors included, pocket for a back protector. It pairs perfectly with the Sherrie leggings if you want a matched set.

Size availability is huge (XXS-5XL) and due to its stretchy design it is a perfect jacket for curvy ladies who might struggle with more structured models.

One honest note: it's a summer jacket and it works best that way. If you're chasing warmth from it, look elsewhere. And check availability when you visit - this one sells through quickly in the mid-sizes.

Available XXS–5XL.

4. HAYLEY - MotoGirl

Best for: The leather fans -  comfort in cooler weather, serious protection year-round

Leather has always been the benchmark for motorcycle protection, and the HAYLEY is exactly that: a classic retro-cut leather jacket with CE AAA certification and the kind of quality that actually improves with wear. Available in seven colour combinations - Black, White, Blue, Green, Purple, Red, Yellow - so there's a version for most tastes.

The honest caveat here: leather is warmer than textile. The HAYLEY is at its best from spring through autumn. On very hot summer days you'll feel it. If summer is your primary season, the LUNA or SHERRIE might be a better match.

Available XXS–5XL.

5. BIA - Pando Moto

Best for: Anyone who wants AAA protection they can wear under anything - or on its own

The BIA is not technically a jacket. It's a bodysuit, a base layer built from BALISTEX® (15 times stronger than steel) with CORDURA® mesh panels across the chest and arms, D3O® Ghost™ Level 1 shoulder and elbow protectors included, and a pocket for an optional back protector. CE AAA certified to EN 17092-2:2020.

What makes it unusual is how versatile it is. You can wear it under your regular clothing - T-shirt, leather jacket, hoodie - you name it!. You wear it under other MC protective gear - adding  AAA-rated protection to whatever you're wearing is easy (just please remember not to double impact protectors). You can also wear it on its own in summer -it's thin, breathable, and thanks to the bi-stretch construction, it stays exactly where it should. The body suit model ensures there is not a slightest gap on your back, so you do not need to worry about that sneaky wind and your jacket sliding up while riding.

One small practical note: the chest panel uses mesh fabric, which can be slightly sheer in certain light. If that concerns you, a dark layer underneath solves it completely.

Available XS–XXL, two colours - Black and Grey.
